Daniel High School Junior ROTC cadets completed 200 "man-hours" of community service from 24-29 March supporting the Semper Fi Barn's annual Vietnam Memorial Day event in Six Mile. Cadets from all flights served during their class periods over 4 consecutive days, focusing on a variety of "spring cleaning" tasks at the outdoor venue on behalf of Semper Fi Barn CEO, Tom Van Kaenel. In addition to community service, the cadets received an education in sacrifice: Mr. Von Kaenel provided each cadet with an individual dog tag of a deceased Vietnam veteran, linking their service to honoring the sacrifice of generations before us. In addition, seven cadets returned on Sunday to support the Vietnam ceremony with a flag detail and other tasks. Finally, two cadets brought great credit to the JROTC program and D.W. Daniel by conducting an interview with Fox Carolina that aired last Friday...you can watch it here: https://www.foxcarolina.com/video/2026/03/28/veteran-remembrance-ceremony-pickens-county/ . This is how we are Developing Citizens of Character."
