Registration Information for 2010-2011
Registration for the 2010-2011 school year is fast approaching. Forms will be given out during class meetings at school. The meetings for rising sophomores and juniors will be on Monday, February 8, at 1:45 PM. Rising seniors received their forms on February 2. To help you decide which courses to take, you might want to check out the High School Graduation Requirements and the District's Career Planning Guide. This graduation checklist may also be helpful.
This year's registration procedures will be similar to those of the past several years. Teachers will be making recommendations as to the level of course that you or your child should take next year. This will be done by having the teachers initial the forms beside the recommended courses. Forms will then be turned into the student's advisor (HUB Teacher.) The advisors will bring the forms to the registration meetings to be completed and signed by a parent.
These evening meetings with HUB advisors will be Tuesday, February 23 and Thursday, February 25 for rising seniors, juniors, and sophomores. Meetings for rising freshman will be Tuesday, March 2 and Thursday, March 4. You should be contacted by the advisor to set up the meeting. Be sure to keep this appointment and please make every effort to arrive on time. If you have questions, feel free to contact guidance, your advisor, or specific classroom teachers. Let's work together to make this a smooth process.

Daniel High Honored for ACT/SAT Scores
D.W. Daniel received accolades on Tuesday from the South Carolina State Department of Education as ACT and SAT results were announced. Daniel was noted for both overall performance and for significant improvement in scores. In both categories, Daniel earned the highest awards, Distinguished Performance with a Summa Cum Laude rating.
These honors are based partly upon Daniel's 1598 composite SAT average score. This was among the highest averages in the state. Secretary of Education Jim Rex commended the schools receiving the honors and noted that South Carolina's 22-point increase in SAT scores over the past ten years was the biggest increase in the nation among states in which more than half of the graduating seniors take the test. Art Classes Fuse Surrealism with Perspective Drawings
The Art I classes at Daniel have just completed a project in which they blended perspective studies with the genre of surrealism. Perspective drawings attempt to represent an image on a flat surface in the manner in which it appears to the eye, as in lines that converge in the distance. Surrealism is a form of art that developed in the 1920's and 30's in Europe. Surrealist works use unexpected positioning of objects to create an element of surprise. Salvador Dali and Max Ernst were among the prominent surrealist of the time. The classes had a lot of fun with this project and did an excellent job. Slideshow of student art work.
